This South regional semifinal game will be played in Houston, TX.

It is remarkable that the Boilermakers have advanced to the Sweet 16 without star player Robbie Hummel, but it will be difficult for Purdue to advance any further in the tournament.

Duke is cruising right now with no speed-bumps whatsoever. Veterans Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler have been a fantastic one-two punch for the Blue Devils thus far and center Brian Zoubek has owned the low post; he only went for 14 points and 13 boards in the last game against Cal.

The best way for Purdue to hang with Duke in this game is to slow the game down – make it ugly and gritty. Guard Chris Kramer is a great defender who has chipped in offensively and F/C JaJuan Johnson is playing great basketball. The Boilers will need to contain at least a few of the myriad weapons at Duke’s disposal. If they don’t, a double-digit margin could open up quickly.

Duke’s iconic Coach K is as or more accustomed to these later-round match-ups than anyone in the country. It’s true that Duke has had some mild disappointments in recent seasons, but it’s been a few years since the consistently excellent program from Durham, NC has rolled out such a well-rounded outfit.

It’s hard to call Purdue a ‘Cinderella’ with a four-seed, but the Boilers have surpassed expectations without one of their looked-to scorers. Everything will have to break Purdue’s way, however, to see this Big Ten team playing in the Elite Eight. Look for Duke to win this game with (relative) ease.

A one-two punch of Sloan and Middleton will be plenty for Purdue to handle defensively, and unless a player like JaJuan Johnson erupts for a career-best performance, the Boilermakers’ tournament push might be at the end of the line.

Betting Trends:

Blue Devils are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Friday games
Blue Devils are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Big Ten
Blue Devils are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 NCAA Tournament games
Blue Devils are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 NCAA Tournament games as a favorite
Blue Devils are 1-4-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600
Boilermakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog
Boilermakers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games as an underdog
Boilermakers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 NCAA Tournament games as an underdog
Boilermakers are 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games following a ATS win
Boilermakers are 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 games as an underdog of 7.0-12.5

Free Blue Devils vs. Boilermakers Free Tournament Pick: Purdue should be able to contain Smith or Singler, but one of the two and/or Jon Scheyer will erupt for a big game. Duke also should win the match-ups in the low block. Expect a Blue Devils victory and expect them to cover the spread.

Score Prediction: Duke 81, Purdue 70
