Providence Friars vs. Georgetown Hoyas Gambling & NCAA Handicapping Prediction

Providence vs Georgetown CBB Picks

Prior to losing three of their last 4 games Providence was a very pleasant surprise. They had been holding their own on their homecourt with wins over the like of Creighton, Butler, Xavier and Georgetown and now have a chance to put a nail in the Hoyas coffin if they can handle them on the road too. Providence

They currently sit 4th in the new Big East but are closer to the top than the bottom at this point.

The Friars have a really nice trio of players who probably don’t get enough national attention. Bryce Cotton is a 20ppg scorer whose value is so high that he averages 39:30 minutes per game…and forwards LaDontae Henton and Kadeem Batts combine for 26 points and 15 rebounds per game.

All of them are strong foul shooters which makes this team a tough one to come back against, in fact, Providence is the top free throw shooting team in America.

Providence is a great team to look closely at in this one. I think you can wait til game time to maybe get a little more value as some will think the Hoyas have turned a corner with their win against Michigan State.

This is a good team and they can play loose. The pressure is all on the home guys.

Georgetown

The Hoyas are in desperation mode and it is working. Things have not gone according to plan this season in terms of losing players to injury and academics but since dropping 5 in a row and 6 of 7 they have won their last 3 including a win against a very good Michigan State team on a neutral floor.

The reality is they probably can not afford another loss to be considered for an at large bid in the tournament.

Georgetown does not have great depth but their starting guard duo of Markel Starks and D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera are tough and super productive. Both average 16.9ppg and are generally good about protecting the ball. They are lights out foul shooters too who have the ball in their hands a lot.

The challenge for Georgetown will be getting enough up front now that Josh Smith is done for the year.

I have always liked Georgetown best in underdog situations. They are just 7-7 ATS as a favourite this season and I think this one could easily come down to the last shot of the game either way. They are going to need their frontcourt to really step up just to get the win.

They lost by 18 to the Friars on the road.

Spread Pick: Providence +4.5
O/U Pick: N/A
Score Prediction: Providence 75 – Georgetown 69
