The Wisconsin Badgers are 12-3 on the year, but they have dropped two of their three road games so far this year. Wisconsin lost at Illinois last week, but they have another chance to top a Big Ten powerhouse tonight in East Lansing. Michigan State is severely underperforming so far this year, and the Spartans need to get on the right track quickly. 
Wisconsin likes to control the tempo of the game. The Badgers play slower than anyone else in college basketball, and they take care of the basketball very well. Jon Leuer is their main man down low, and the offense usually runs through him. Wisconsin plays tough defense, but one of their downfalls so far this season has been allowing too many open looks from behind the arc. The Badgers are second in the nation when it comes to free throw shooting as a team, coming in at 80.4%.
The Michigan State Spartans have just as much talent as anyone in this conference, but right now they are playing terrible basketball. Tom Izzo is a great coach and I fully expect this team to improve by March, but it really is surprising how much they have struggled. The single biggest issue has been turnovers. The Spartans commit numerous unforced errors every game, and they must correct that. The team only hits 65.5% from the line, and they have lost some close ones this year because of their miscues at the charity stripe.
At this point, I’m not very comfortable picking either of these teams. I do think Wisconsin will successfully slow down the tempo nicely, so I like the under here.
