The Elon Phoenix out of the Southern Conference will be looking to pull off an improbable upset over the No.1 ranked Blue Devils in their first game of the year against a ranked opponent. Tonight’s game from Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, NC. is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN Full Court pay per view.

The odds makers must believe it will be a tall task for Elon to keep this game within 40 points as most sports books have decided to not even offer an opening line. The Phoenix have lost four out of their last six games to teams from small conferences with the exception of a 76-57 loss to Maryland as a 23-point road underdog. They are currently 4-6 straight-up and 3-3 against the spread.

Freshman guard Jack Isenbarger could be worth watching for Elon in this one as he leads the team with 14.9 points per game. The Phoenix are averaging 77 points a game and shooting 43.4 percent from the floor.

Duke has taken a bit of a breather in its pre-Christmas schedule after impressive victories over Kansas State late in November and Michigan State on Dec. 1. The Blue Devils beat the Wildcats 82-68 as a 5 ½-point favorite at a neutral site and the Spartans 84-79 as a 10-point home favorite. They are currently 10-0 SU and 6-3 ATS.

Duke’s version of the big three; Kyrie Irving, Nolan Smith, and Kyle Singler are each scoring around 17 points per game, while Mason Plumlee leads the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game.

There is a reason there are very few places that are taking any wagers on this game as while 36 is a lot of points for any team to give, it may not be nearly enough in this one. If you have to make a play, then give the 36 and stick with the Blue Devils.
