The Pittsburgh Panthers face their most bitter rival in the Big East tonight when they tangle with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Tip-off from the WVA Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Pittsburgh comes into this game fresh off a 71-59 victory over Cincinnati as a nine-point home favorite. The win moved the Panthers to 21-2 straight-up (9-9 against the spread) on the year and kept them in first-place in the conference at 9-1 SU.

The win over the Bearcats also proved to be costly as Ashton Gibbs, the Panthers leading scorer with an average of 16.3 points a game, sustained a knee injury that will sideline him for two weeks. Brad Wanamaker, who is the team’s second leading scorer with 12.3 points, and Gilbert Brown, who is averaging 11.5 points, will be counted on to step things up in Gibb’s absence.

West Virginia is coming off a 66-50 loss to Villanova on Saturday as a 4 ½-point road underdog. The Mountaineers fell to 15-7 SU on the year and 9-10 against the spread. They are currently tied with Connecticut for seventh-place in the Big East at 6-4 SU.

Casey Mitchell, the Mountaineers leading scorer with an average of 15.7 points a game, returned from a three-game team suspension against the Wildcats but proved to be ineffective. Look for Mitchell to get back in the groove with a much better effort against Pitt. Another player to watch is Kevin Jones, who is averaging 13.3 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds a game.

West Virginia has a golden opportunity to take down Pitt with Gibbs out of the lineup. The Mountaineers have won two out of the last three meetings both SU and ATS and find a way to grab another win in tonight’s game.

Gambling Trends:

PITT are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 Mon. games.
Under is 6-2 in PITT last 8 road games.
Over is 7-3 in WVA last 10 home games.

The Pick – West Virginia EVEN
