The Cal Poly Mustangs out of the Big West face their first top 25 opponent of the season when they take on the No. 14 San Diego Aztecs from the Mountain West. Tonight’s game from Viejas Arena in San Diego is set for a 10 p.m. (ET).

Cal Poly comes into this game with losses in three of its last four games including a 67-48 loss to Loyola Marymount on Dec 4 as a 7 ½-point road underdog and a 72-61 loss to UCLA this past Saturday as an 18-point road underdog. The total in the loss to the Lions stayed ‘under’ the 131 ½-point line and it went ‘over’ the 132 ½-point line in the loss to the Bruins.

These latest losses dropped the Mustangs to 3-5 straight-up for the season and to 2-4 against the spread. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of their last six games with a closing line. They are averaging 58 points a game and shooting just 37.5 percent from the floor.

Junior forward David Hanson leads the Mustangs in scoring with an average of 15.8 points per game and junior center Will Donahue is the team’s leading rebounder with 8.1 per game.

San Diego State has reeled off 10 straight victories to open the season with eight of them by double-digits. The Aztecs biggest win was 79-76 win over then-No.12 Gonzaga as a six-point road underdog. The last time out, they rolled over San Diego 77-49 as a 27-point home favorite.

The Aztecs have covered the spread in their last six games and are currently 10-0 SU and 8-1 ATS on the year. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last nine games overall.

San Diego State is led by sophomore forward Kawhi Leonard, who is averaging a team-high 16.3 points per game and 9.9 rebounds. Senior guard D.J. Gay and senior forward Billy White are each averaging close to 12 points per game and Gay leads the team in assists with 3.6 per game.

The Aztecs, as a team, are averaging 77 points a game, and defensively are holding their opponents to an average of just 61.2 points. They are shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 65.3 percent from the free throw line.

Cal Poly is 1-4 SU and 1-3 ATS on the road this season and have lost its last four road games by an average margin of 12 ½ points. San Diego State is 4-0 SU at home this season and 1-2 ATS. It has won its last four at home by an average margin of 18.75 points.

It will be a tall task for the Mustangs to keep this game closer than 26 points as they just do not have the talent or the depth to hang with the Aztecs for two full halves. Go with San Diego State to cruise to its 11th straight win in a lopsided affair.

Betting Trends:

Over is 20-9-1 in CALPO last 30 road games.
Under is 9-2 in SDST last 11 vs. Big West.
SDST are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Under is 43-18-1 in SDST last 62 home games.

The Pick: San Diego State -26
