The Indiana Hoosiers are still in the middle of a rebuilding mode, but the Penn State Nittany Lions are a team full of veterans. Indiana is nowhere near the bubble, while Penn State would probably need to at least advance to the title game to be in consideration for the NCAA Tournament.

The Hoosiers have withstood quite a few major injuries this year. Maurice Creek was one of their main players on offense, but he is out for the season with a knee injury. Christian Watford has also been banged up most of the year, but he is healthy now. Tom Crean and the Hoosiers will have a nice home court advantage in Indianapolis, which certainly won’t their cause.

This is a team that plays hard, but they just don’t have the talent most teams in the Big Ten have. Indiana lost to Penn State at home earlier this year, and they will be look to avenge that loss on Thursday.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have a terrific point guard in Talor Battle. Battle is a senior leader and he does just about everything for this team. The problem for Penn State has been they don’t have much depth. Jeff Brooks is a solid second scoring option, and David Jackson generally gives them a good effort.

After these top three players, no one on this team averages more than six points per game. Because of this, Penn State is prone to going into long scoring droughts. On the defensive end, the Nittany Lions allow opponents to shoot 38% from beyond the arc, and that has hurt them badly this year. Penn State likes to control the tempo, and I expect them to try to keep this one low scoring.

Trends:

PENST are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 Thu. games.
Hoosiers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog of 0.5-6.5.
Nittany Lions are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Nittany Lions are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big Ten.
Under is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.

The Pick:

The Nittany Lions are the veteran team here, but they have been inconsistent this year as well. I think this game stays close most of the way, but I’ll take Penn State to cover based on their ability to knock down free throws at the end of the game.

Prediction: Penn State 68 Indiana 61
