The No.9 seed Connecticut Huskies will try and win their fifth consecutive Big East Men’s Basketball Tournament game in five days with a victory over the No.3 seed Louisville Cardinals in tonight’s Championship game. Tip-off from Madison Square Garden is set for 9 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Connecticut’s tear through this year’s Big East Tournament as a ninth seed has been fuelled by one of the greatest individual efforts in tournament history. Junior guard Kemba Walker as scored well over 20 points in all four of the Huskies game including a game-winning jumper against No.1 seed Pitt in the quarterfinals and a 33-point effort against No.4 seed Syracuse in last night’s semifinals.

UConn started things off with romps over DePaul and Georgetown in the first two rounds in games it was favored to win and then got serious with a 76-74 win over the Panthers as a 5 ½-point underdog and a 76-71 OT win over the Orange as a four-point dog.

Louisville used the rest from a double-bye for the first two rounds to roll over No.11 seed Marquette 81-56 as a 3 ½-point favorite in the quarterfinals. The Cardinals battled back from a huge deficit in the semifinals to take out No.2 seed Notre Dame 83-77 in overtime as a two-point underdog.

Senior guard Preston Knowles had a very average night against the Golden Eagles with a team-high 15 points to match his 14.7 point season average. Against the Irish, he led a furious second half comeback after the Cardinals trailed by 14 points at the half. Knowles finished with 20 points, four assists, and three rebounds to help land Louisville in the title game with a shocking win over a stunned Notre Dame team.

Head-to-head, the Cardinals have won the last four games both straight-up and against the spread including a 79-78 OT victory on Jan.29 as a 5 ½-point road underdog and a 71-58 romp as a 3 ½-point home favorite on Feb. 18.

Walker is playing like a man possessed but the third time will not be a charm for the Huskies as four games in four days proves to be a bit too much to overcome against a slightly less-spent Cardinals

Trends:
Over is 23-7 in UCONN last 30 neutral site games.
Under is 6-2 in LOUVI last 8 overall.
Under is 6-2 in LOUVI last 8 vs. Big East.

The Pick: Louisville 77-73

One reply on “UConn vs. Louisville Free College Hoops Pick + Preview”

My son ran cross country in college. At one meet, he pointed out the guy who was going to win (he didn’t). The funny thing about college, unlike the Pros, some kids don’t know they are not supposed to win and that is what makes it a game. And in basketball, it only take one person to get red hot and no matter how good the opposing team, they can’t win. I don’t know if Walker is that guy, but I will say this, this guy wants to win and he gives it his all, all of the time. A tremendous work for all to see. Five in five days is hard for anyone, but I would rather see UCONN play Louisville than ND.

Have a good day,
