ATS Matchup Insight | CP Insider Gambling Preview

Villanova

These two teams are no longer in the same conference but it is nice to see these two programs, which were part of the core of the old Big Eas,t have decided to continue the rivalry at least a little longer.

Though no one could have anticipated it would be a matchup of unbeatens this year.

The Wildcats are one of the highest scoring teams in America. They have a strong perimeter oriented attack featuring a bunch of guards who can bomb from the outside and create turnovers that lead to easy scores. When they do want to have something of an inside presence they go to JayVaughn Pinkston. The burly forward is a matchup nightmare with an ability to use strength and quickness.

He is averaging 16.5 ppg to lead the club.

With such an unexpectedly strong start it is no surprise that the Wildcats have been making a killing for bettors this season. They are 8-1 ATS on the season and that includes two outright victories as underdogs.

I am pretty sure they are not as good as that #11 next to their name in the rankings but I am not sure I would bet against them.

Syracuse

[ad-6571516]
The Orange are right where many thought they would be, piling up wins in the nonconference before beginning their first ever taste of ACC action. Like Villanova they are undefeated, with a very nice groups of wins including Baylor and Indiana and another former conference mate St. Johns.

They may not be killing opponents but this workmanlike team is getting it done as they break in a new backcourt.

So far that backcourt of Tyler Ennis and Trevor Cooney has been very good. They may not be getting much in the way of accolades but they are both double digit scorers who are nailing more than 40% of their three point attempts.

Ennis, a freshman point guard has been especially impressive protecting the ball, he has nearly a 4-1 assist to turnover ratio. Not to be forgotten is that leading scorer C.J. Fair is maybe the most consistent player in college basketball.

Syracuse has not been crushing lines but they have covered in four of their last 5 contests. Their zone has been rocking to the tune of a top 25 defense and I really like their depth this season.

This team is kind of lying in wait right now but I think they will take a turn as number one before too long. I love them at home as short favourites.

Spread Pick: Syracuse -4
