ATS Matchup Insight | CP Insider Gambling Preview

Boise State

They haven’t beaten anyone yet so this will be a huge opportunity against a Kentucky team that is still searching for some answers. I am not sure they can pull off that kind of win but with an experienced backcourt I think they will show better than most would expect. Can you imagine if Boise State won?

That experienced backcourt is primarily Anthony Drmic and Derrick Marks who combine for 38 ppg.

They are savvy veteran players who will need to play well for Boise State to have a chance. Boise plays a mostly perimeter game so I am curious to see if they can frustrate the Cats.

Power forward Ryan Watkins is going to have his hand full with Julius Randle but he is not a complete slouch averaging 10/10 so far this season.

Thus far the Broncos have only played three lined games with a 1-2 ATS record. I am not going to go so far out on a limb and say they are going to upset Kentucky but I like them a lot as an underdog play.

They should be able to play their game and shoot well. The Cats are so young they might press and open the door.

Kentucky

The Wildcats may have a couple of losses but no embarrassments this season. Losing to Michigan State and Baylor, two teams with some size and experience advantages is nothing to be ashamed of and any thoughts of this being a perfect team have gone flying out the window.

Kentucky can be a very good team but they are not going to get there until players other than Randle start living up to their recruiting hype.

Other than Randle you can point the finger almost anywhere but I am wondering what has happened to SF Alex Poythress, one of last year’s top recruits.

Right now he is averaging less than 5 points per game. It is looking like he and a bunch of others are real front runner types in the sense that they are not willing to work hard to be effective. These guys cut corners all the time and expect their press clipping to get them by.

It has already proven that won’t be enough so the question is how do they respond.

Kentucky is 6-0 at home but just 2-2 ATS at Rupp. It seems that even in front of their home fans this team is not getting all that revved up. I think they are going to struggle a bit against Boise. They should own the board on both ends but shotmaking is still a challenge for these guys.

Unless they are breaking out of a funk this one will be within 5-10 points throughout.
