Has there been a bigger turnaround from game to game than Georgetown. Last Saturday they embarrassed Duke on their home court. And what did they do for an encore, they lost to South Florida on the same court by eight. Not exactly the kind of performance you want to have in your recent memory when the number two team in the nation is coming to town. Villanova beat Georgetown last month in Philly and a season sweep will go a long way to securing a number one seed. The Wildcats are currently riding an 11 game win streak and their backcourt is producing big time led by Scottie Reynolds. Look out though because Corey Stokes is coming to life.
I’m sure the Wildcats have been looking at tape of Dominique Jones of USF while thinking our guards are better than he is. All Jones did was strike for 29 points as a one man wrecking crew so Reynolds, Stokes and Corey Fisher must be licking their lips. Villanova is so strong in the backcourt that they can bout out skill you and wear you down. Georgetown is very solid at guard but doesn’t have the depth so I think the ‘Cats will try and push tempo even more than usual. They want the game to have a great flow and play in the 80’s.
If they can do that they could run the Hoyas right out of their own gym.
For the Hoyas to have a chance they need three things to happen. 1) They have to establish Greg Monroe and make sure he is not in foul trouble – he scored 29 in the previous match and it wasn’t enough. 2) Austin Freeman has to have an efficient game – 8/15 for 22 point in the previous contest. 3) Chris Right has to play his best game of the year – he was 1-7 with four fouls. If those three things happen then they have a chance. The Hoyas may be favoured at home but in my mind they are the underdog.
Score Prediction:
Villanova – 82
Georgetown – 79
Pick: G-Town will close the gap in this contest but when Wright fouls out in the final minute Villanova will seal the victory. Great value in Villanova as the underdog.
