@BYU
Last Game for Utah: 75-69 loss at Wyoming (ATS loss – 3.5)
Last Game for BYU: 76-72 loss at New Mexico (ATS loss +1.5)

Line: BYU -14.5
Matchup history: BYU 63 – Utah 50 (BYU ATS win -6)

The Holy War does not get nearly as much attention on the hardwood. This is probably because these two programs have trouble being relevant at the same time. This year BYU is significantly above the Utes entering this contest with a lofty #10 ranking. That will likely drop with their loss to New Mexico but this is still a very experienced and dangerous teams. Guard Jimmer Fredette is getting a lot of best player you never heard of pub. Meanwhile the Utes are scuffling a bit more than expected. There is certainly no Andre Miller/Keith Van Horn talent on this squad.

If you are a .500 team in the Mountain West Conference your season isn’t really going anywhere…But you still want to crush your hated rivals which is why this game has a little bit of juice. The Utes might be the most maddening team in the nation this year. Check out these decent wins – Michigan, Illinois, Utah State, UNLV.  Sports Betting at the Sportsbook No Kansas or Kentucky but a team that can beat these guys shouldn’t lose to Pepperdine, Weber State and Seattle (not the Sonics). Utes fans have to hope that this weekend the see the good Utes led by the Carlon Brown who scored 31 against Wyoming as opposed to the one who scored 4 against New Mexico. Its anybody’s guess. If the effort is there this could be a game.

On paper BYU should crush the Utes. They are ranked 10th in the nation, undefeated at home and 8th in scoring at over 82ppg. The combination of Freddette and Jonathan Tavernari are as good as it gets in the MWC even though Tavernari is having a down year. The only weaknesses for the Cougars are that they are neither big nor athletic. Two qualities unlikely to be exploited by Utah or in conference in general. This squad is amazingly efficient shooting 50% from the floor and a nation’s best 77% from the charity stripe.

Throw in the anger from their loss to New Mexico and the Utes shouldn’t stand a chance.

And BYU has won 5 of the last six, in every which way.

Pick: BYU should get the easy win in a nice bounceback after losing to New Mexico. At -14.5 I don’t see much value in this line. I’d take a pass here.

Score Prediction:

BYU – 74
Utah – 61
