Memphis Tigers vs. Louisville Cardinals Preview

Memphis (5-3) is coming off a loss and they have lost both games against teams that have a legit chance to do some noise in the Big Dance.

In their last games Memphis was upset losing to Murray State 76-72 and Louisville beat Fairleigh Dickenson 80-58.

This season Louisville is 4-2 ATS with an O/U record of 1-5 and Memphis is 3-4 ATS with an O/U record of 5-1-1.

Memphis is a high scoring team ranking 15th in the nation in points per game led by Will Barton (20.4 ppg), who has scored 27 points in each of his last 2 games, and Joe Jackson (13.4 ppg). The Cardinals have a great D and if they can shut down these 2 guys they should easily win this game.

Barton is also the leading rebounder for the Tigers, but he is only a 6’6″ G and will need help in this game on the glass.

Louisville’s Gorgui Dieng (9 ppg 9 rpg) and Chane Behanan (9.2 ppg 8.1 rpg) are each solid on the boards and can score inside, which is not good facing a Memphis squad that only ranks 206th in the nation in rebounds per game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

G/F Kyle Kuric (12.7 ppg) and G Chris Smith (10.6 ppg) are the 2 leading scorers for the Cardinals, but Louisville may want to get the ball down low to their frontcourt players since the Tigers do not have much size.

Memphis committed 15 turnovers in the loss to Murray State and the Tigers will have to hold onto the rock in this game facing a solid defense of Louisville. The Tigers also allowed Murray State to hit on 45% of their 3-point bombs and even though the really need to worry about the big men of the Cardinals they still cannot allow Louisville to have many open looks from deep.

In some betting trends for this non-conference match up Memphis is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games facing a team with a winning record, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games facing teams from the Big East, and they have an Over record of 7-1-1 in their last 9 games.

Louisville is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against teams with a winning % above 60%, 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall, and they have an Under record of 7-1 in their last 8 non-conference games.

Memphis has covered the spread in their last 5 games facing Louisville.

Jason’s Pick: Both of these teams are solid, but with the Cardinals being a much better team on the boards the will win this game by dominating the glass. Take Louisville to win this game. The Cardinals will win this game with their D and keep Memphis’ offense in check winning by a score of around 77-70
