UCONN (17-12) is the defending champion, but they have really sputtered down the stretch and have lost 3 of their last 4 games including their last 2.

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. UCONN Huskies Preview

Even if they win this game facing Pitt (16-14) they may have to go far in the conference tourney to make the Big Dance. The Panthers snapped their 5-game losing streak in their last game, but unless they capture the Big East tourney they will not be going dancing this season.

In their last games Pitt beat St. John’s 89-69 while UCONN lost to Providence 72-70.

This season Pitt is 11-14 ATS with an O/U record of 12-13 and UCONN is 9-15-1 ATS with an O/U record of 11-14.

UCONN leading scorer Jeremy Lamb (17.7 ppg) did not shoot the rock well in the loss to Providence, but he is not really the reason the Huskies are losing, as he has played pretty well in the last several games. On the other hand 2nd leading scorer Shabazz Napier (12.1 ppg) has really struggled lately and since this backcourt duo leads the Huskies he has to get back on track. Napier only has 13 points total in his last 3 games.

One of the reasons Pitt snapped their losing streak is that leading scorer Ashton Gibbs (15.5 ppg) played well for the first time in a few games going for 19 points in the win over St. John’s. G Tray Woodall (11.5 ppg) has not scored in double figures in 4 of his last 5 games and he has to get back on track to give Gibbs some scoring help. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Both of these teams are solid on the boards, but Pitt will really have to man up on UCONN 6’10” C Andre Drummond (10.3 ppg 7.9 ppg) and not let him have his way in the paint. In his last 3 games he has averaged 12.33 rpg.

Both teams are led by their backcourt and the team that can knock down the J and get in the lane and score will win this conference match up.

Connecticut has a better defense and if their offensive struggles continue they will need to hang their hat on their D to win this game and keep their Big Dance dreams alive.

In some betting trends for this Big East game Pitt is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Under record of 14-5 in their last 19 road games.

UCONN is 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.

Jason’s Pick: Pitt has covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games facing UCONN, but something tells me the Huskies will suck it up and play well in this game and won and cover.
