South Florida Bulls vs. Temple Owls Preview

Temple won the Atlantic 10 conference this season, but they were upset losing to UMASS in the conference tourney. This game is all about the solid offense of Temple facing the solid defense of South Florida. NCAAB lines have Temple as a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 121.5.

In their last games South Florida beat California 65-54 while Temple lost to UMASS 77-71.

This season Temple is 17-14 ATS with an O/U record of 18-12-1 and South Florida is 17-14 ATS with an O/U record of 9-22.

I mentioned each team’s strength and each must play to that in this game. Temple ranks 30th in the nation in scoring and South Florida has the nation’s 7th ranked defense in terms of opponents’ points allowed. The Bulls must win with their D since they only rank 328th in the nation in opponents’ points allowed.

USF had 3 players score in double figures in the win over Cal led by Victor Rudd Jr. with 15 points and the reason the Bulls won is that they shot lights out and they held Cal to 36.2% shooting from the floor. The Bulls do not have one player that is averaging in double figures in scoring and they have to slow the pace of this game and rely on their lock-down defense.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Temple is led by the G duo of Ramone Moore (17.7 ppg) and Khalif Wyatt (17.1 ppg) and each of these guys shot over 38% from behind the 3-point line. The Bulls have to get in these guys faces and not let them get open looks from deep or allow them to get out on the run and make this an up-tempo game.

It is also key that the Bulls’ defense plays well on 6’11” F/C Micheal Eric (9.1 ppg 8.8 rpg), who has pulled down at least 11 rebounds in 4 of his last 5 games.

Temple is an experienced team led by seniors so do not look for them to get flustered against the solid defense of South Florida.

In some betting trends for this Midwest Region 2nd round game South Florida is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games, and they have an Under record of 7-2 in their last 9 non-conference games.

Temple is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Over record of 6-2-1 in their last 9 games.

Jason’s Pick: Temple is a well-rested team that will play well against a tired USF team and even though the Bulls have the defense the Owls will figure out how to score, win this game, and cover the spread.
