Ohio Bobcats vs. North Carolina Tar Heels Preview

Still, UNC has the best frontcourt in the nation and NCAAB lines have them as big 10.5-point favorites with a total o 142.5.

In their 3rd round NCAA tourney games Ohio beat South Florida 62-56 and North Carolina beat Creighton 87-73.

This season North Carolina is 20-15 ATS with an O/U record of 18-17 and Ohio is 15-13 ATS and has an O/U record of 12-16.

With Marshall out the other UNG guards will have to take up his scoring slack and, more importantly, feed the big guys in the paint.

Ohio and their defense will really have their hands full trying to contain the UNC frontcourt trio of John Henson, Harrison Barnes, and Tyler Zeller, who combined for 41 points in the win over Creighton. Henson and Barnes shot well under 50% from the floor in the Creighton game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Ohio only shot 39.5% in the win over South Florida, but they buried half of their 3-point bombs (9/18). The G duo of Walter Offutt and D.J. Cooper combined for 40 points in the Ohio game and combined for 6 3-pointers. With how overmatched the Bobcats are in the frontcourt the Bobcats’ backcourt has to hit on some long bombs.

Ohio was out-rebounded by South Florida in their win over the Bulls and the Bobcats 2 leading rebounders are Ivo Baltic and Reggie Keely and these guys have a big task in this game. Both are 6’8″ and give up quite a bit of size to the frontcourt trio of UNC and they cannot allow them to dominate in the paint.

Since Ohio is led by their backcourt the guards must not only score, but also create some turnovers.

In some betting trends for this Midwest region Sweet 16 game Ohio is 5-4 ATS in their last 9 games and they have an Under record of 4-2 in their last 6 games.

UNC is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games, 3-2 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games, and they have an Over record of 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Jason’s Pick: The Bobcats are a good story, but in the Sweet 16 that story ends. Even without Marshall in the lineup the Tar Heels are simply too big and strong in the paint and they will not only win this game, but also cover the 10.5-point spread.
