Fresno State will try and break a 6 game losing streak to the Aggies on the road this evening.

Utah State whipped Fresno in their first meeting of the season 69-34 in January. The Aggies easily covered at -2.5.

Fresno State used to be able to recruit a fair amount of wayward next level talent in the Tark years but they are now decidedly third tier in the WAC. They enter the game needing a WAC conference miracle to have any chance of extending their season so their motivation may be down knowing they are likely in for another drubbing this evening. Their leading scorer is Paul George, a nice forward by WAC standards, but he is coming of his worst game of the year. He scored 0 points in an ugly loss to San Jose State and he will need to be a factor for the Bulldogs to keep this one respectable. He left their early season matchup early with injury but wasn’t really a factor anyway. Running mate, Sylvester Seay, who some think has a glimmer of an NBA hope, was 1-12 against the Aggies last time out. These two need to combine for 40 points to have a chance at victory.

Utah State just keeps winning. Sure the WAC is not a power conference but their dominance of it is akin to Gonzaga in the WCC. They just haven’t had as much success as the Zags in the Tournament which is not surprising as their talent base is lower. This year they have a couple of nice resume wins against BYU and Wichita State that might help them out if they do not win the WAC tourney.

The Aggies are the best three point shooting team in the country at 42.3% but leading scorer Taj Wesley is a bruising Corliss Williamson type and does his scoring from in close. His numbers are up over last year and he get lots of space to operate with all the great shooters Utah state has. This teams core players are not very long and this could be a factors against Fresno State.

Based on their previous matchup the Aggies are unlikely to be bothered by it.
