Pittsburgh is building momentum with this run and continued its unbeaten streak against the Dukes to 5-0 in the last four years of the series, drubbing them 80-69 on Wednesday.

The difference in this one was the Panthers ability to outrebound Duquesne, 39 to 15 on the glass.

They also came out ahead in three pointers, hitting a total of 33 points from beyond the arc. Something that they have done well all season, shooting nearly 46 percent from downtown while outshooting their opponents in three point percentage for the past five games.

Senior guard Ashton Gibbs led all scorers against the Dukes with 18 points on 53 percent shooting in 36 minutes, with 12 of those points coming from three-point range.

Big man Dante Taylor recorded his first double-double this season and second of his career, with 15 points and 11 big rebounds. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

In the meantime, Jordan McRae notched his second 20-point game of his career, leading Tennessee with 25 points in 33 minutes in the Vols second loss to Oakland in as many years.

Tennessee was simply outplayed as Oakland beat them up with solid defensive rebounding, while taking full advantage of their free trips to the stripe, hitting 90 percent of their free throws compared to 71 for the Volunteers.

In the end, Tennessee couldn’t handle Oakland, and fell to 3-3 on the season for the first time since 2004.

The Volunteers have now dropped three of their last five games and if they cannot find a way to shut down the Panthers three-point advantage, will likely fall to under .500 after this one.
