Here are some of the NCAAB sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

MSU has won nine of its last ten games SU
MSU has covered eight of its last 12 games
MSU has played seven of its last ten games OVER the total
FLA has won six of its last seven games SU
FLA has covered six of its last nine games
FLA has played its last six games UNDER the total

Billy Donovan had great fortune in being able to retain all five starters form a team that won the national title a few years back so that he could turn around and win it again.

As you recall, he was then offered the opportunity to coach the Orlando Magic, took the job, then reconsidered and opted to stick with the relative safety of college ball.

He seems to have been in a rebuilding process ever since, missing the NCAA tournament the last two seasons and having to settle for the NIT. What this team really needs to learn how to do is finish a season strong.

Nick Calathes, a 6’5′ guard who could do a lot of things and was the Gators’ best player, left and took an offer to play in Greece. So instead of having a big guard to build the offense around, they have a small backcourt that consists of 5’8″ Erving Walker and the top freshman recruit for this year, Kenny Boynton. There is balance but no real stars in the frontcourt, although there is some hope in Vernon Macklin, a Georgetown transfer who will have to suffice as their bruiser.

Florida has been through a minor test, scoring a 68-52 win over a Florida State team that is always going to be disciplined and defensive-minded, but is offensively challenged with the departure of Toney Douglas.

They’ll have to deal with a Michigan State squad that appears to have ramped the tempo up. Last year the Spartans averaged 72 points a game, and thus far they are at 84, though admittedly the Big Ten season hasn’t started yet.

I’m looking for Tom Izzo’s team, which returned four starters and has a habit of getting better later in the season, to take full advantage of experience at the point guard spot with All-American Kalin Lucas, and size matchups with people like Durrell Summers and Chris Allen.

Both of Florida’s guards – Walker and Boynton – are hitting less than 20% from beyond the arc, and against a seasoned team like Michigan State, it’s too easy for them to play “off” the duo and clog passing lanes.

Florida has nice young talent, but isn’t quite there yet. We’ll grab Michigan State minus the five points that are posted in the BetUS NCAA college basketball betting odds.
