Notre Dame

They haven’t faced a murderous schedule for sure but they have knocked off Kentucky , BYU, and Purdue as well as Seton Hall to kick off their Big East season.  This is just their first road game of the year and it won’t be easy.

Notre Dame has a nicely balanced team.  Power forward Jack Cooley is difficult to handle in the past and is averaging a double-double while the backcourt of guards Jerian Grant and Eric Atkins is underrated.  Those are the top three scorers on this deep team that has 7 players averaging 8.5 points or more.  They are not flashy but there is no team in the conference this team can not compete with or beat.

Notre Dame has the kind of team that is hard to get excited about because they are probably already fully formed.

By that I mean they are probably not going to improve that much over the course of the season.  That wouldn’t be such a bad thing as this team is 7-4 ATS.

They have not been the underdog in any of those games though.

Cincinnati

Cincinnati is just 1-1 to start Big East play.

After a dominating second half on the road to beat Pittsburgh they had a head scratcher of a loss at home to a very young St. Johns team.  This is a very well thought of team but since they rely so much on shooting these days they are bound to see more of these kinds of swings.

P.S. Both of their losses this season were by just a single point. [ad-6571516]

Guard Sean Kilpatrick is leading the team in scoring (no surprise) and rebounding (big surprise) which is indicative of this team.  There will be some nice battles in the backcourt on Monday night as Kilpatrick has strong running mates in guards Cashmere Wright and JaQuon Parker, the only other double digit scorers.

I worry about how they are going to handle Cooley down low as center Cheikh Mbodj averages 2 blocks a game but is more the pogo stick type.

The Bearcats are just 6-5 ATS this season and have dropped 3 of their last 4.  Two of those were straight up losses in which they were favoured.  A bad development is that this team is just 1-5 ATS at home this season.

Usually shooting teams are better at home within the friendly confines but that hasn’t been Cincy this year.
