New Mexico

New Mexico has beaten Colorado State once this season already but if they can’t do so again they will be even with them in atop the MWC standings.

This is the kind of game that makes this conference so great this season.

New Mexico might be a surprise leader in the standings but not when you look closely at them.  This is a stout defensive team giving up just 60ppg with veteran leadership at point guard in Kendall Williams, whose shooting numbers are down this year.

Throw in a legit post threat in Alex Kirk and it is easy to see why they are able to compete every time out there.  They have depth too with 8 players averaging 15 minutes or more of game action.

I think this one will be a low scoring affair which makes me look very closely at New Mexico.  The game is probably going to come down to the last possession or two and with both teams shooting foul shots well, and at about the same clip, there is no real advantage there. [ad-6571516]

These teams are pretty even when you look at them closely and the final score will reflect that.

Colorado State

The Rams were keeping pace with New Mexico until their loss to UNLV earlier in the week.  Now they return home looking to rebound and avenge a previous loss to the Lobos.  Despite CSU’s success this season they are 0-2 against ranked teams this year including that loss to New Mexico.

This is a good team but their case would be better with a few high profile scalps on their mantle.

These teams are constructed similarly in that there is nothing real fancy about them.  Colorado State pounds everyone on the glass despite not being all that big after center Colton Iverson.  Iverson vs. Kirk should be a nice battle inside meaning the Rams will likely have to turn to one of three other double-digit scorers.

Colorado State doesn’t go as deep as New Mexico on paper but at home that shouldn’t be much of a concern.

Against San Diego State and UNLV the Rams won at home by an average of 5.5 points, which I am guessing was factored into creating this line.

I like the Rams to emerge victorious in this one but come up a little bit short of the number.  A made free throw here or there by either team will have wagerers on the edge of their seat.

It will be pretty good hoops action too.
