Texas El Paso: 22-5 SU, 11-12 ATS
Marshall: 22-7 SU, 14-8 ATS

The Marshall Thundering Herd will try to spoil the newly appointed No. 24 UTEP Miners attempt to claim a Conference-USA title when the two teams battle on Tuesday at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

The last time these two met, the Miners beat the Herd 74-67 on Feb 14, 2009. The Miners have won four of the five all-time meetings against Marshall, and two of those wins have come at the Cam Henderson Center.

UTEP is currently atop the conference at 13-1 and a victory tonight would award the Miners the regular-season championship. UTEP are currently on a 12-game winning streak that includes a 78-64 decision over Rice last Saturday.

Junior forward Jeremy Williams led the way with 20 points, while Randy Culpepper, who is pacing the team with 18.0 ppg on the year, added 18 points in the win. Derrick Caracter leads the team with 8.8 rpg and finished with nine points and nine boards. The Miners shot 55.8 percent from the floor, and netted 12-of-25 attempts from downtown. UTEP have been dangerous at the offensive end of the floor and come into tonight’s game averaging 76.6 ppg, behind a solid 47.8 percent shooting effort.

Meanwhile, the Thundering Herd is playing well and has won seven consecutive games, but they weren’t all easy. The Herd needed three overtimes in their last outing to come away with a 121-115 win over UCF. Senior Chris Lutz scored a team-high 25 points, Dago Pena contributed 20 points, while Damier Pitts added 19 points, and Hassan Whiteside posted a triple-double of 14 points, 13 blocks and 11 rebounds in the win. Marshall shot an impressive 59.6 percent from the field, draining 10-of-21 attempts from three-point range, and converted 43-of-67 shots from the foul line.

The Herd is the highest scoring team and best defensive team in the conference, scoring 80.8 points per game while holding opponents to 67.7.

Six-foot-eight senior forward Tyler Wilkerson leads the team with 13.4 ppg, but was held to just eight in the win over UCF.
