Memphis

They hit the road having won 18 games in a row and with a resume devoid of any huge wins and horrible losses.  This is normally a matchup between two of the best mid major programs in the country.

Unfortunately Xavier is a little down this year, not keeping up their end of the bargain.

If you follow recruiting rankings that you know that Memphis has the talent to beat pretty much anybody in the country.  Freshman forward Shaq Goodwin has been coming along slowly but is coming off his best game the last time out against Southern Miss.  He has next level talent and can be a bruiser inside.

If he is finally figuring things out than this team’s ceiling just got a lot higher.  He has two more league games to prove it.

Memphis is on a long winning streak but they haven’t been cashing bets all that often – just 11-13 ATS for the season.  One thing to consider is that they have been better in true road games, they are a solid 5-2 ATS in those contests.  Memphis is a great value play on Tuesday at -3.5.

It is the second time they have a had a spread this low since conference play began.

Xavier

Even though this is a down year for the Musketeers they could easily slide into the postseason if they can come up with a mini run to close things out.  Three of their final four games are against ranked teams leading off with Memphis on Tuesday.

Winning all of those and not embarrassing themselves in the A-10 tournament could be enough as it shows they can play well when there is something on the line. [ad-6571516]

Xavier usually benefits from experience but this year they are being led by by local product, freshman point guard Semaj Christon.  It is easy to make the case of him being the most valuable and perhaps best freshman in the country.  He is leading the team in scoring at 15ppg and has scored 11 or more points in all league games.

Yes he turns the ball over but he makes winning plays too.

The Musketeers haven’t drifted as far as expected, posting a 12-10 ATS record as a result.

It is going to be tough to hold back the Tigers on Tuesday but they are at home and if Christon plays well they have a chance.

I don’t like those odds or the probability of them slowing down a multifaceted Memphis attack.
