Memphis vs. Gonzaga Sportsbook Preview (Feb. 7)

NCAAB: GONZAGA’S WINS NOT CASHING IN

Gonzaga bettors have little to show for the team’s current nine-game winning streak.

While the #18 Bulldogs were pulling out victories, their opponents were pulling out covers as Gonzaga repeatedly failed against the spread (ATS). In fact, Gonzaga has covered just five of the last 13 games even after Thursday’s 93-78 win over Portland.

And while Gonzaga covered in Thursday’s victory, the lack of recent cash production will give bettors plenty of reason to closely examine the spread as Gonzaga prepares to host #14 Memphis in one of Saturday’s biggest college hoops games.

Saturday’s schedule is packed with exciting matchups and you can get all the odds on Sportsbook.com’s Live Odds page.

The problem for Gonzaga bettors is that the team has been overvalued, with seven spreads of 19 points or more in their last 11 games. Their 16-4 record, 24th ranked offense and 47th overall defense warrant the high ranking in the polls but the Bulldogs have not proven that they are capable of covering spreads on a regular basis.

Such big spreads can be difficult to cover as a team will often rest starters once a lead has been built, allowing the opponents to rack up points in garbage time against the second unit.Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Bettors won’t be faced with a big spread on Saturday night but Gonzaga’s lack of success at the pay window could deter more than a few bettors, especially against a Memphis team that has covered nine of their last 12 spreads.

Statistically, these two teams are evenly matched with Gonzaga scoring an average of 79 points per game and Memphis averaging 77. Both teams boast depth at the offensive end of the court, with four players on each squad averaging in double digits.

Defensively, the Zags give up 61.9 points per game with teams averaging 61.5 points against the Tigers.

Both teams have also been beating up on their conference opponents; Memphis going 8-0 in Conference USA play and Gonzaga going 8-0 in the West Coast Conference.

Despite the similarities, Memphis bettors have fared much better at Sportsbook.com. The Tigers are an impressive 13-8 against the spread (ATS).

Totals bettors may want to take a close look at the Over as these teams have played the last two seasons and gone Over the number while each of the last three Memphis games cashed-in Over.
