#15 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. #4 Duke Blue Devils Preview

On the season North Carolina is 12-12-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 12-10-1 and Duke is 13-11-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 14-9.

This season Duke os 11-1 at home and North Carolina is 5-3 on the road.

In their last games Duke beat Syracuse 80-72 and North Carolina lost to Pittsburgh 89-76.

In the biggest rivalry in college hoops the hot 4th ranked Duke Blue Devils host the cold 15th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. Duke has won 5 straight and 8 of their last 9 games while UNC has lost 3 of their last 4 games.

Duke has 3 losses in the ACC and they are chasing Virginia, who has 1 conference loss. Since they do not face UVA again Duke may have to win out and win the conference tournament to have a shot at a #1 seed in the Big Dance.

North Carolina has a solid front line that leads the ACC in rebounding and they also lead the conference in offensive and defensive boards per game. They will be tested tonight, but star Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor, who may be the leader for the player of the year and will likely be the #1 pick in the next NBA draft. He leads the ACC in scoring and FG% and has scored in double figures in every game this season.

In the last 20 games between these 2 bitter rivals each team has 10 wins, so I guess tonight’s game will be a king of tie-breaker.

While Okafor is a beast the Blue Devils are still giving up the most points in the paint in the ACC. Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks have to play solid D on the Duke big man and they also have to provide some offense inside.

The Blue Devils are a solid 3-point shooting team and UNC has to play solid perimeter D. In an interesting stat Duke has never lost to UNC when they have shot at least 40% from 3-point land.

Marcus Paige (13.9 ppg) leads the Tar Heels in scoring and he must play better than he did in the loss facing Pitt when he was 3/11 from the floor for only8 points.

In terms of the head to head betting trends it points to UNC covering. However, overall they have not been a good bet and tonight at home Duke will win and cover the 8.5-point spread.
