The Jayhawks shot 51.6 percent from the field, and won the battle of the boards 38-28, while going 18-for-21 from the free throw line.

However, the defense was a little inconsistent, and allowed the Cyclones to finish 30-for-62 and 10-for-26 from 3-point range.

Meanwhile, the Longhorns (16-4) are sitting at third best in the conference after beating No. 23 Baylor 74-60 the last time out.

Freshman Isaiah Taylor had a career-high 27 points, going 10-of-18 from the floor with three assists and three steals. Jonathan Holmes added 14 points and eight rebounds and Cameron Ridley had eight points and a career-high 14 rebounds for Texas who held the Bears to just 32 percent shooting on the night.

The Longhorns also did a good defensively on the perimeter, limiting the Bears, who entered the game leading Big 12 in 3-point shooting at 40.1 percent, to just 3-of-17 from beyond the arc.

Texas also dominated the paint, getting consecutive inside shots from Holmes, Ridley and Taylor who also outrebounded their opponents (43-40) for just the third time this season.

Free Pick

Kansas — Kansas leads the series all time with 18 wins and six losses to the Longhorns who last beat the Jayhawks in a 74-63 shocker at Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 22, 2011.

Since then KU has won the past five including both meetings last season, which included a 73-47 blowout on Feb, 2, 2013 at home.

The Jayhawks are better in every category on paper, but will need to take better care of the ball after committing 14 turnover against Iowa State.

In the meantime, Texas capitalized on 13 Baylor turnovers, so Bill Self’s team cannot afford to give up free points if they want to walk away with a win here.
