The cold-shooting Golden Panthers of Florida International (4-8 SU, 2-7 ATS) seem like they have a tough matchup on their hands when they tangle with the defensively-stingy Georgetown Hoyas (8-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) in NCAA college basketball sports betting action that is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 PM ET at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

BetUS NCAA Basketball Sports Betting Odds: GEORGETOWN -29.5

Here are some of the NCAA basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* FIU has lost seven of its last eight games SU
* FIU has covered one of its last six games
* FIU has played 13 of its last 16 games UNDER the total
* FIU is 0-5 & ATS in its last five road games
* FIU has played seven of its last nine road games UNDER the total
* GEO has won its last five games SU
* GEO has won 16 of its last 19 games SU
* GEO has played seven of its last ten games OVER the total
* GEO has won its last five home games SU
* GEO has covered three of its last nine home games

You’re kind of behind the eight-ball when you are only shooting 33.6% as a road team, while allowing your opponents to hit almost 50% from the field. That’s the situation the Golden Panthers of Florida International find themselves in as they take their lumps in the early stages of the Sun Belt Conference season. Losses by over 20 points to Washington, UCLA and Miami give one the idea that the Panthers have a hard time venturing into the major conferences, but Arkansas State thumped them by 20 in the Sun Belt opener last Thursday, holding FIU without a three-pointer throughout the entire game. In their last four contests, FIU has shot 34%, 30%, 36% and 36%. And when five of your top seven scorers are shooting under 40%, you’ve got problems.

To be fair, this team has been beset by a lot of injuries. Tremayne Russell, who provided a threat from downtown, is out with a hand injury. Russell Hicks, the seven-footer who was averaging two blocked shots a game, is down with a bad foot.

This has the potential to cause quite a bit of pain against Georgetown team that, as usual, is making it a gut-wrenching experience for opponents to put the ball in the hoop. The Hoyas are permitting only 33.6% field goals, which places them second best in the country, right behind Washington State. Four of the members of Georgetown’s starting five are shooting better than 50%. Chris Wright is doing rather well at the point, with an assist-turnover ratio that is better than 2-to-1. Greg Monroe, the highly-touted freshman, has been pretty dependable, with 2.2 blocks a game and a solid 12.7 ppg average.

FIU has dropped its last six games as an underdog against the number. Georgetown hasn’t beaten anyone by this kind of margin outside of Savannah State, and one would understand if they are far more preoccupied with a their upcoming trio of games, pitting them against #2 U-Conn, #3 Pittsburgh and #8 Notre Dame. But this is a good chance to “air it out” and slam someone to get a little confidence going into the Big East season. Let’s lay the points with the Hoyas, the 29.5-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA college basketball sports betting odds.
