#11 Marquette Golden Eagles vs LSU Tigers CBB Free Pick

#11 Marquette Golden Eagles (10-0) vs LSU Tigers (7-3)

The Marquette Golden Eagles are still among the unbeatens in college basketball.  This marks just the second true road game for them but it should be a little bit easier than when they beat the Badgers up in Madison.

Monday December 19
Pete Maravich Assembly Centre – Baton Rouge, LA
9:00PM
Moneyline:
Spread: Marquette -8
O/U:  137

Marquette

I am still not sure what the ceiling is for these guys but one thing I am sure of is that this is one of the better offensive teams in the country.  They may not have great size but they shoot the ball so well and don’t quit.

As the season continues we are seeing more and more why Marquette is a team to be reckoned with.  Most know all about DJO and Jae Crowder but they are also getting contributions from unexpected places like freshman guard Todd Mayo.  In 19 minutes per game he is averaging 11ppg and is coming off his best performance of the season (22 points on Saturday against Northern Colorado).  He gives them even more depth on the perimeter.  They need all the scoring they can get out there because they don’t get much production from the true bigs they have on the roster.

LSU

LSU isn’t going to challenge in the SEC this year but 7 early wins means that a .500 or better season is a real possibility.  The early part of their schedule has been pretty weak but their win over Boise State might wind up being impressive if the Broncos can continue their better than expected play in the Mountain West.  This looks like some scheduling to save a coaching staff though and things might get ugly when the Tigers play the conference heavyweights in the New Year.

The Bayou Bengals do have athletes and a strong defensive mindset so they might be able to stifle Marquette some.  If not, they are in real trouble as they just don’t have the horses to keep up in a track meet.  Whatever happened to Storm Warren?  He was supposed to be the next great (i know exaggerating) LSU Tiger but is seeing his numbers decline for the second season in a row.  Maybe having a cool name just isn’t enough on the Bayou.

Spread Pick:   Marquette -8
O/U Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Marquette 83 – LSU 63
