Bet On College Basketball: Rebels vs Commodores

It was supposed to be Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt for the third time this year, but Mississippi had something to say about that.

The Rebels stunned Tennessee in overtime last night to get to the SEC Semifinals.

Vanderbilt played a poor first half, but they kicked it in gear and blew out Georgia in the second half. Can the Rebels hang around with the Commodores in this one?

Mississippi is a team with a lot of athletes, but they often struggle with inefficiency on the offensive end. Terrance Henry leads the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game.

He is a player who has tons of athleticism, but he also leads the team with a troubling 110 turnovers this year. Murphy Holloway is the key to this team. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Holloway averages 11.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. If the Rebels are going to win this one, Holloway must have a big game. Mississippi shoots just 31% from beyond the arc and 60% from the charity stripe.

Vanderbilt is a team that has underperformed in the NCAA Tournament the last couple years. The Commodores have tons of talent, but they are extremely inconsistent.

They played Kentucky tough twice, but they also lost to Indiana State and Cleveland State on their home floor. John Jenkins averages 19.9 points per game, and he shoots 46% from beyond the arc. He is the type of guy that can light it up in a hurry. Jeff Taylor averages 16.8 points per game. He has the ability to shoot it from deep, but he is at his best when he attacks the basket.

Festus Ezeli needs to be more aggressive on the offensive end if this team is going to make a run this March.

The Rebels have a nice five game winning streak, but I don’t think they can stick with Vanderbilt here. The Commodores beat Mississippi 102-76 on the road last month.

Look for a comfortable win for Vanderbilt.

Prediction: Vanderbilt 77 Mississippi 63
