Indiana vs. Wisconsin NCAA Basketball Preview & Free Pick

Bet On College Basketball: Hoosiers vs Badgers

Tom Crean engineered an impressive turnaround at Indiana this year. Cody Zeller has been tremendous in his freshman season, and the Hoosiers knocked off the number one team in the country twice.

In fact, they are the only team to beat Kentucky all year. Wisconsin continues to do what they do extremely well, and that is exactly how Bo Ryan likes it.

The Badgers are never an easy team to beat. This might be the best of the quarterfinal matchups in the Big Ten.

Cody Zeller was the guy who really changed this Hoosiers program from day one on campus. Zeller averages 15.5 points and 6.5 boards per game.

Like his brother Tyler, Cody is great at running the floor from his frontcourt position. Christian Watford is shooting 41% from three-point range, and he is a big guy with a very versatile game.

In the backcourt, Indiana has sharp shooter Jordan Hulls. Hulls is knocking down a ridiculous 49% of his shots from beyond the arc. Victor Oladipo isn’t an outside shooter, but he can take it to the rim with authority. Verdell Jones III was hurt in the Hoosiers win over Penn State, and indications are that he might miss the rest of the year.

The Hoosiers will try to push the pace in this one. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Wisconsin is great at controlling the tempo and playing great half court defense. Jordan Taylor will likely finish his career as the NCAA leader in assists/turnover ratio.

Taylor is the perfect guard for Bo Ryan’s methodical system. He leads the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game, but he has struggled with his shot most of the season.

Wisconsin lacks a big man who can post up and score on a consistent basis, but just about everyone on this team can shoot it from deep. Josh Gasser is a 44.4% shooter from three-point range.

Wisconsin leads the nation in a couple key defensive statistics. The Badgers allow only 51.9 points per game. Opponents shoot only 27.6% from beyond the arc.

I like this Indiana team, and I think they can squeak out a close win here. Expect Zeller to have a big game.

Prediction: Indiana 61 Wisconsin 58
