The Buckeyes now look to defend their Big Ten Conference Tournament title from the last two years.

Purdue rolled into the quarterfinals with a big win over Nebraska.

The Boilermakers are a tricky team to play right now, and this isn’t a game Ohio State should take lightly.

Matt Painter has this Purdue team playing their best basketball of the season right now. Robbie Hummel looks much healthier than he did earlier this year, and that is a huge positive for the Boilermakers. Hummel averages 16.6 points and seven boards per game.

He has been shooting it better over the last few games, but for the season he is hitting only 41% of his shots from the field. Ryne Smith and D.J. Byrd are three-point sharp shooters for this team. Smith shoots 44% and Byrd shoots 43% from beyond the arc. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Terone Johnson has developed into a play maker and Lewis Jackson is a steady point guard for this squad. The Boilermakers work hard on the defensive end of the floor.

Ohio State has had some ups and downs this year. The Buckeyes were expected to easily be the class of the Big Ten, but not everything has gone right. Still, Thad Matta’s team is in a good position.

Jared Sullinger is the team’s main man in the post, but he has struggled against taller defenders. Sullinger’s numbers are very good, but they are actually down slightly from last season.

William Buford has struggled with his shot all season, but he was awesome for Ohio State in their win at Michigan State last Sunday. If Buford can regain his shooting stroke he could carry the Buckeyes through some tough games. The Buckeyes are a very good rebounding team. Ohio State allows just 58.5 points per game defensively.

Aaron Craft may be the best on the ball defender in the country.

Purdue gave Ohio State a very tough game in Columbus about a month ago. I think Ohio State has the edge again here, but don’t be surprised if it is closer than expected.

Prediction: Ohio State 71 Purdue 67
