For Texas, they’re more than likely going to be a bubble team unless they can get put together a string of impressive wins down the stretch. A win on the road against the #20 team in the nation will be a start. As for West Virginia, they just keep on rolling.

The Mountaineers followed up their home win against top 10 ranked Kansas with a road victory over the #22 Cowboys 73-63.

Texas Longhorns

Playing against ranked opponents has been a struggle for the unranked Longhorns. Losers of 7 of 8 games against ranked teams, Texas will look to build up their weak tournament resume on Tuesday night when they head into Morgantown. However, if they’re looking for something to build off of, their lone win against a ranked opponent this year has come against West Virginia.

Back on Jan. 17th, Texas trounced the then #16 Mountaineers by 27 points. Leading the way for Texas was Junior C Cameron Ridley. Ridley scored 19 points, which led all scorers in the game.

On the season, the center has averaged 8.4 points a game to go along with 5 rebounds. He’s struggled in his last 3 games as he’s accumulated only 12 points combined.

Texas will look for Sophomore G Isaiah Taylor to have a big game Tuesday night. Taylor is averaging 13.4 points a game and is coming off a 23 point performance against the Iowa State Cyclones.

On the road this season, Texas is just 4-5 S.U.

West Virginia

The Mountaineers have made a statement in the Big 12 with their last two performances. West Virginia has taken out the #8 and #22 teams in the nation. In dramatic fashion, they knocked off Kansas in Morgantown with a late layup. They dominated the Cowboys on the road Saturday.

West Virginia is beating opponents with their fast paced offense. Averaging 74.4 points a game (35th), the Mountaineers are being led by Senior G Juwan Staten. The 6-1 G is averaging 14.8 points a game and dishing out 4.7 assists. Staten has big games in both of the Mountaineers latest wins.

Staten dropped in 22 points and 7 assists against the Cowboys. Against Kansas, he scored 20 points and dished out 4 assists. Staten also put in the game winning layup with just seconds left in the upset win.

At home this season, West Virginia is a dominant 10-3 S.U.

They’ve beaten the likes of #8 Kansas, #18 Oklahoma, and Kansas State.

  • Longhorns are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
  • Longhorns are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games.
  • Mountaineers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
  • Mountaineers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

Free 4* NCAA Basketball Pick: Texas +4.5

Texas has 3 straight games against ranked opponents. This is their chance to really show the committee what they’re made of. Although West Virginia is on a roll, the Longhorns will give them their A+ game on Tuesday.

Texas 77, West Virginia 73

Expect a close back and forth battle, with Texas ultimately adding a key win to their resume with a big road win.
