Now they must prove to be a legit contender that they can win on the road. The Panthers travel to Drake to take on the Bulldogs who are trying to grab their first win in the MVC.

Northern Iowa

The Panthers have seen stints inside the Top 25, but their road woes have managed to keep pushing them out.

Losers of their last 2 in a row on the road, Northern Iowa will look to build off their 2 straight conference wins come Saturday.

If Northern Iowa wants any chance at competing for the top spot in the MVC, they’ll need pick it up on the offensive side of the floor. Averaging just 66.3 points a game (218th), the Panthers are looking for somebody besides Senior F Seth Tuttle to step up.

Tuttle is averaging 14.6 points and 6.1 rebounds a game. He matched his career high with 24 points in the Panthers’ 55-39 victory over Southern Illinois last time out.

Allowing just the 39 points against Southern Illinois, the Panthers defensive pressure has been the main reason for success this season. On average, Northern Iowa is allowing just 56.4 points against this season.

While their struggles on the road have been noted, Northern Iowa is 6-1 ATS in true road games and neutral court games. They’re averaging 70.0 points a game in road contests while allowing 69.2 points.

Drake

The Bulldogs have struggled in just about every aspect so far. They’ve suffered losing streaks of 3, 5, and now are in the midst of another 3 game losing streak. Going on the road for their last two MVC games, Drake dropped both contests by a combined 61 points.

They return home where they’ve captured all 3 of their wins this season. On December 31st, Drake hung tough with #15 Wichita State, but ultimately fell in the end 66-58.

The Bulldogs are scoring just 59.7 points a game and are shooting 43.2 percent from the field. Leading the way for them is Freshman G Reed Timmer. Timmer is scoring 10.3 points a game. Also contributing for the Drake Bulldogs on a regular basis is Senior G Gary Rick Jr. Ricks is averaging 10.0 points per contest. His most impressive game as of late came against the #15 Wichita State Shockers where he scored 11 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

Drake is just simply looking for somebody to step up and be a leader. They continue to struggle both offensively and defensively which leads them into some early holes in games. Getting out to a fast lead is crucial for them when they host the Panthers on Saturday.

NCAA Basketball Trends:

  • Panthers are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games.
  • Panthers are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
  • Bulldogs are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 vs. Missouri Valley.
  • Bulldogs are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

Free 4* NCAA Basketball Pick: Northern Iowa -13.5

Laying a lot of points with Northern Iowa on the road might scare some, but the Drake Bulldogs are just not even close in skill level here. The Panthers road losses have came in overtime to VCU and by 3 points to Evansville.

Northern Iowa 65, Drake 45

Northern Iowa should have no problem getting out of the gates early and pulling away.
