Wichita State

It is both good and bad to be Wichita State. Good because you have a great veteran backcourt and one of those numbers next to your name; bad because they expect you to beat pretty much everybody.

The last time the Shockers took the court they lost to George Washington.

The Colonials are not exactly the best program but they are not the worst and the only other loss for Wichita State this season has been at an underrated Utah.

Now that they are in MVC play they may not lose again.

Razor Ray's Picks

The backcourt of Ron Baker, Fred Van Vleet and Tekele Cotton is among the best in America.

They all provide something a little different but the one thing they all have in spades is a high basketball IQ making it hard to close out these guys even when you think you have them buried.

Compared to last year this team is not nearly as strong up front. Cleananthony Early was a gem and nobody on the current roster has replaced him.

Drake

There is not a lot to this Drake Program. They have not made the Tournament since 2008 and they are often out of the picture in the more competitive than you think Missouri Valley.

This year’s team has gotten off to a forgettable start at just 3-9.

Even though they have just three wins don’t get too excited as they have come against the likes of Jackson State and the illustrious Simpson College – neither games were lined and the Bulldogs have won just one game against the number this season.

The Bulldogs essentially play a 1-4 set with 4 guards and a center. Reed Timmer and Gary Ricks Jr. lead the team in scoring at 11ppg and Drake has multiple players capable of hitting outside shots.

The problem is their strength is the strength of the Shockers defense as well. Drake has a legit inside presence in the form of 7 footer Jacob Enevold Jensen.

He has a developing game and will need to be a factor for the Bulldogs to be respectable.

NCAAB Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 8-2 in WICH last 10 Wed. games.
  • Over is 7-2 in WICH last 9 vs. Missouri Valley.
  • WICH are 22-8-1 ATS in their last 31 Wed. games.
  • DRKE are 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
  • Over is 21-6 in DRKE last 27 home games.
  • Home team is 7-3-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

4* NCAAB Prediction:  Wichita State -15.5

Not a ton of value here with the Shockers heavy chalk on the road.

NCAAB Score prediction:  Wichita State 80 – Drake 61

They will win and will likely cover but don’t force this one on New Year Eve.
