The Rams ticket looks lunched but they can’t slide down the stretch just in case. Richmond has a strong brand but they are not at the top of their game this season.

VCU

The Rams are tied with surprising Rhode Island atop the Atlantic Ten conference heading into Wednesday night. They have definitely not been the same team since Briante Weber went down with an injury that will cost him the rest of the season but if they can finish atop the the league, with their brand name, there is no way they are not included in the dance. However, there might be some urgency here as they have already lost once to Richmond this season – at home. Two losses won’t looks very good.

Weber may key the Rams’ HAVOC defense but the Treveon Graham is their top scorer and rebounder. I love the way he is able to mix up his game and he is coming off his best game of the season, 24/10 against UMass. VCU is a little smaller this season than they have been the past couple of seasons. The Spiders have some size but probably not enough to exploit this weakness.

Richmond

The Spiders have won three of four but they would probably have to run the table if they want to go dancing this season. A second win against VCU would be a nice feather but not enough and if you look closely I believe the previous win was against the Rams right after they lost Weber for the season. That certainly made it a lot easier for guard Kendall Anthony to have one of his best games of the season. The home crowd will help but this will be a tough one for the Spiders.

Though only 5’8” Anthony is the leading scorer for the Spiders. I am leery of those kinds of guards because unless they are great shooters I don’t trust their consistency. Anthony is not a great shooter but you can’t knock his 16ppg too much. The Spiders have some scoring depth too with 3 others averaging at least 10ppg. The key to winning will be setting the pace they want and not letting VCU dictate.

NCAAB Betting Trends:

  • Under is 8-2 in VCU last 10 road games.
  • RICH are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
  • Home team is 12-3-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings.
  • Favorite is 10-4-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings.

NCAAB Betting Prediction:  VCU -1

Small number here and I love the Rams as the favourite.

NCAAB Score Prediction:  VCU 67 – Richmond 61

Even though they are down a piece they will be looking to make a statement here and are the better team.
