VCU

The big news for the Rams is the recent injury of point guard Briante Weber.

He is one of the best on the ball defenders in the college game and his absence will mean that the Rams notorious HAVOC defense may not be as effective.

With him out of the lineup this will be a chance for coach Shaka Smart to show the depth he has been building at VCU.

Unlike some other Mid Majors the strength of this program has not been contingent upon any one player.

They have a system and it works…and the talent is getting better.

The Rams just suffered their first loss in conference play in their last game. In looking at the numbers it was an absolutely terrible shooting game for VCU.

The Rams are not the best offensive team around but normally their style of play creates some easy buckets. Against Richmond they couldn’t hit anything.

They were especially anemic from deep making just 19% of their three point attempts. The law of averages says they should be better in this one.

George Mason

There is still a soft spot for George Mason in most people’s hearts as they were a fun bracketbuster story.

This season has not been good times. While VCU has just one conference loss this season the Patriots have only been able to muster a couple of conference wins.

They could certainly be motivated by the Rams coming to town but this year but they might not be able to match that with enough talent to push VCU.

A win would could be the highlight of the current season who  does not look like it is ending with postseason play.

The Patriots have a productive interior player in Shevon Thompson.

The freshman Center is 6’11” and strong and is the leading scorer and rebounder on the team, averaging 13&11. He is not the most refined low post threat but he is a beast on the offensive glass – averaging 5 offensive boards per game.

To have any shot against VCU he needs to have a strong game and stay on the floor.

NCAAB Betting Trends:

  • Under is 10-1 in VCU last 11 vs. Atlantic 10.
  • Under is 11-5 in VCU last 16 Wed. games.
  • Over is 12-3 in GMU last 15 home games.
  • Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in George Mason.
  • Over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.

NCAAB Betting Prediction:  VCU-10

This is probably a good spot play on VCU. At this stage of the season they should be just fine without Weber.

NCAAB Score Prediction:  VCU 72 – George Mason 60

Oddsmakers tend to overvalue injuries is this could be a chance to pounce.
