Villanova is a sure thing for the Big Dance but Providence not so much. A win on the road would definitely help their case and they know it.

Providence

Providence has been a pleasant surprise in the Big East this season as a conference which might have been only able to count on its guaranteed bid will now get three or four.

I like their chances either way but they can seal the deal with a road win against Villanova. These teams met two weeks ago and the Friars more than held their own, losing by just 6 points. This is a program on the rise but they are probably still a player short from being a scarier team. They do have some very talented players though.

It is hard to find a more productive duo in America than LaDontae Henton and Kris Dunn. Henton leads the team in scoring and rebounding as a 6’6” forward who can do some things around the basket and on the perimeter.

Dunn is 4th in the nation in assists and has become the Friars most consistent shooter. He is also second in rebounding. If you want to beat Providence you have to control these two.

Villanova

The thoughts about Villanova preseason were that this was going to be a very good team but I am not sure most would have predicted that we would be this far in and they would have only a couple of losses. They have not lost since Jan 18 at Georgetown, a span of eight games, all of which they have covered as well. Similar to Virginia this is a very good team without a true star. I am still not sure if that will help or hurt them when the most important games start next month.

Behind the numbers Villanova still has some work to do. Right now Ryan Arcidiacono is their second leading scorer.

I would love to see him slide down this list and others improve their game, most notable JayVaughn Pinkston, who is not having a good senior campaign. They should also look to Daniel Ochefu a little bit more inside. This teams likes to shoot from deep but they should do it more inside out.

NCAAB Betting Trends:

  • Over is 7-2 in PROV last 9 Tue. games.
  • Over is 23-9 in PROV last 32 overall.
  • VILL are 40-16 ATS in their last 56 games overall.
  • Under is 5-2-1 in VILL last 8 overall.
  • Under is 5-2-1 in VILL last 8 vs. Big East.
  • PROV are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
  • Road team is 12-5 ATS in the last 17 meetings.

NCAAB Betting Prediction:  Providence +11.5

There is no question who the better team is here but I think the values might be a little off on Villanova after a nice run.

NCAAB Score Prediction:  Villanova 74 – Providence 67

No upset here but the steady hand of Dunn will keep the Friars in the game and they can cover Tuesday night.
