Illinois

The Big East is likely a little down this season but that opinion is changing thanks to the early play of team like Illinois.

This far the Illini have answered every test except for a trip down to Miami in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Illinois is pushing the ball and scoring lots of points with its guard dominated lineup.

Their top 5 scorers all play on the perimeter through Rayonte Rice sometimes looks like a power forward the way he rebounds the ball and can be physical in the paint.

In Rice and Malcolm Hill the Illini have two fantastic wing players. Both are strong, both are shooting better 50% from the field and better than 46% from deep and both make their free throws. In short, when they have the ball good things are happening for Illinois.

The rest of the guard attack are not as prolific but they help keep the pace up and allow for these two to excel.

Villanova

The Wildcats had a close call against Michigan but other than that it has been pretty smooth sailing in the early going.

Over this early part of the season they have really showed their depth winning easily even though mainstays Jayvaughn Pinkston and Ryan Arcidiacono have not gotten off to good starts. The Wildcats may not have the best talent but they could be the best team as they share the ball and do the little things that help you win.

This will be a nice test for their perfect record.

With other players off to slower starts Dylan Ennis is leading the team in scoring.

So far he has been a nicely efficient scorer for Villanova, especially from deep where he is making 46%. Inside the Wildcats rely on Daniel Ochefu, whose scoring and rebounding numbers have taken a bump as a junior.  Villanova goes 7 deep with a lot of interchangeable parts that can all be productive.

Any one of those 7 could lead in scoring almost any game.

NCAAB  Handicapping Trends:

  • ILL are 0-6-2 ATS in their last 8 Tue. games.
  • ILL are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
  • Under is 11-5 in ILL last 16 non-conference games.
  • VILL are 44-19 ATS in their last 63 games overall.

NCAAB Prediction: Villanova -4

The Illini are a fun team to watch but the Wildcats will foil them on Tuesday.

NCAAB 4* Score Pick: Villanova 71 – Illinois 62

Their lack of size will show a little and this group is used to the bright lights of MSG.  That is enough to cover the small number.
