Arizona State is looking to build their pre-season resume as much as possible.

The expectations are not very high in the land of the sun right now. Ever since Sean Miller took over at rival Arizona the Sun Devils have been pretty mediocre and this season they are not going to be close at all to their rivals.

If they want to make the postseason they have to have this game against Marquette. The Golden Eagles are down but the program still has a strong brand.
Further road victories show a lot about what a team is really capable of and once they get in conference they may not have too many of those.

There have been some very good players that have trained for the NBA in Tempe but this team does not have much star power.
The guy who has shown the most this season is big man Eric Jacobsen. He can be a brute in the paint and has been super effective, making 70% of his shots while also pulling down 8 boards per contest.
If you don’t have a guy with some size to slow him down he can really beat you up.
Marquette
It didn’t seem to make a lot of sense when Buzz Williams left but he thought the program had peaked and that is was going to be hard to continue to succeed. Based on the results of this season it appears he was right but it is hard to know just how much his leaving has precipitated things.
Thus far it is hard to figure out what this group is going to do well. It seems like they are average in every way so there is no surprise that they have amassed a .500 record so far.
Marquette’s top scorer this season is well traveled guard Matt Carlino. I am not sure why he always feels the need to bolt but he is getting playing time and playing well. This is not a very deep or big team this season.

They only have one player over 6’7” and the whole roster is only 8 players deep. That will probably catch up to them as the season progresses but for this one they should be able to compete.

I am not going to lie and say I have a great read on either of these teams just yet.

However, I think the Sun Devils have a great chance to come into town and leave with a W so lets take the value with that side.
