EAST REGION PREDICTIONS – 2013 NCAA Tournament Free Picks & Sleepers
By my count there are 7 teams in this bracket talented enough to end up representing this region in the Final Four in Atlanta. That should make for some very competitive action from now until then. Here is a sneak preview before we go any deeper.
I don’t include Marquette who has the 4th best Vegas odds in the group among those 7 with a shot.
Odds to win East Region from Bookmaker:
The Elite
Indiana +117 – The Hoosiers may very well be the best team in America which is why you can’t make too much money betting them just to win this region. I don’t like the way the brackets shapes up for the Hoosiers who have had more than a few blemishes on their resume.
No great value here.
Miami +343 – As compared to Indiana, I love the way things set up for Miami. This team is better than you think and found its mojo again in the ACC tournament. Some are even saying that point guard Shane Larkin should come out in the draft this season, he has been that good.
Tripling your money by backing this seed looks pretty good but you can probably make more by playing them to win each game individually. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
The Contenders
Syracuse +579 – That 2-3 zone has foiled many a team over the years which is a good place to start in terms liking the ‘Cuse. Their offense is inconsistent but there is high end talent on the Orange.
More than enough to like their chances in almost any matchup. Don’t give up on them short too soon.
UNLV +1257 – The regular season wasn’t quite as good as anticipated out on the strip. Vegas is dangerous because they have some really high level talent and might be peaking at the right time. They had a lot of new pieces coming into the year and they might finally be coming together.
Sleeper
N.C. State +1883 – Before the season N.C. State would have been at about the same consideration level as Syracuse and UNLV and definitely ahead of Miami. The key for them is going to be point guard Lorenzo Brown. If he is willing to sacrifice just a little to play winning basketball this team could go very far.
The 7 deep talent on this team is tremendous and they played better last week in the ACC tournament before running into Miami.
Predictions
- Marquette will be knocked out by a lower seed – maybe Davidson
- Butler won’t be this year’s Butler
- Temple won’t get another chance to upset Syracuse
- Indiana will not make it to the Final Four
- An ACC team will…most likely Miami
