The No. 12 BYU Cougars will hit the road to take on Mountain West foes the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The Cougars edged out the Rebs 77-73 the last time the two teams met on Jan 6. It’s the Rebels’ only road loss in nine games this season. UNLV has won the last six meetings with BYU at the Thomas & Mack Center.

BYU played Texas Christian to a 76-56 victory on Tuesday night. Mountain West Conference Player of the Year candidate Jimmer Fredette scored 26 points and Jackson Emery had 12 points and six assists in the win. Noah Hartsock added 14 points and Chris Miles pulled down 11 rebounds for BYU, who shot just 39 percent, almost 11 percent below its season average, but was able to pull out the victory. Fredette leads the conference, averaging 30.5 points over the last four games, while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 68 percent from three-point range.

Junior center Matt Shaw posted a career-high 16 points to lead UNLV past Wyoming 78-50 in Mountain West Conference play on Wednesday night. The Rebs dominated the Cowboys in the paint, outscoring Wyoming 32-16. UNLV led by as many as 30 points in the second half. The Rebels are shooting 50.0 percent or better from the field since the end of January, but have just twice limited teams to 52 and 53 points defensively. UNLV will be without junior guard Derrick Jasper who is sidelined for at least five weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

The Kentucky transfer was averaging 6.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals with 60 assists and 27 turnovers before the injury.

The Rebs must contain Fredette if they want to win this one, while BYU will look for ways to shut down UNLV inside.

BYU vs UNLV Odds

The odds currently favor UNLV by -1.5 in this one.

Free Cougars vs. Runnin’ Rebels CBB Pick

BYU hasn’t won at UNLV since 2005, the year the Cougars were 9-21. But this year is different so I expect a huge win for the Cougs in this one.
