Kansas State’s double overtime win against Xavier was a thriller and Jacob Pullen proved again that he is not afraid of taking the big shots. Running mate Denis Clemente was not as sharp, but the duo combined for more than half the Wildcat’s points.
K-State may be a little winded on the quick turnaround but this is the more athletic and deeper team so I don’t think it will be much of a factor.
This is a good matchup for the Wildcats, especially coming of the extended game against Xavier. Butler is pretty methodical and their game is based on precision not speed so there should be little concern. Look for the Wildcats to make it very tough on Matt Howard.
He has been very mediocre and they will run about 5 guys at him, all very long and athletic. He picks up fouls easily don’t be shocked if K-State chases him from the game early.
It was shocking that Syracuse lost to Butler. With all due respect to the Bulldogs, at this stage of the game it is often about matchups and I didn’t think this was a good one for them. They are on the nation’s longest winning streak so everyone should look past the number 5 next to their name. As eluded to above Matt Howard could be the key.
He has to stay in the game and be effective, something he has struggled with all season.
If he can win some battles in the paint then the duo on Gordon Hayward and Shelvin Mack can try and match Pullen and Clemente basket for basket.
Ronald Nored and Willie Veasly have both been playing better than expected in the tournament.
This will need to continue, especially on the defensive end for the Bulldogs to advance.

Kansas State is a very good team but their is something special about this Butler team. They have haunted me ever since I picked UTEP to upset them in the first round so I’m not picking against them today.
