Can the Blues Devils be stopped?

Duke put another one in the win column on Wednesday beating the Virginia Cavaliers on the road in conference action, 56-41. The win capped the regular season sweep, including a 76-60 win earlier this year.

The Devils got the win by beating Virginia big in defensive rebounding while shooting 50 percent from the floor, once again outshooting their opponents from three-point range for the fifth straight game. Nolan Smith posted a game-high 22 points, his 32nd 20-point game of his career, on 52 percent shooting in 36 minutes of play, while Mason Plumlee contributed nine big rebounds as Duke used their advantage on the boards to generate more possessions with a total of 34 defensive rebounds to Virginia’s 20.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech ended a five-game losing skid managing a 65-53 win over the

Chattanooga Mocs on Wednesday in Atlanta. A year ago, Georgia Tech beat Chattanooga 95-64.

Glen Rice Jr. was the leading scorer for the Yellow Jackets, shooting 47 percent for 27 points while leading scorer Iman Shumpert came up with 11 big rebounds and 19 points. It was the 10 straight double-digit point game for the junior guard and sixth 20-point game of Rice Jr’s career.

Tech controlled the game on both ends of the floor outshooting and shutting down Chattanooga’s attempted efforts on attack.

This will be the only regular-season meeting between the teams, and Duke’s experience along with being able to throw up multiple defenders, including Smith against Shumpert, could be enough to stifle any real Tech attack. One of the keys for Duke will be making sure no other Georgia Tech player heats up if Shumpert is shut down. Likewise, Shumpert, one of the ACC’s top perimeter defenders, will match up against the conference’s scoring leader in Smith. Shumpert must avoid fouling, as Smith was shooting 82.7 percent from the free-throw line, sixth best in the ACC.

CBB Betting Trends:

DUKE are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 Sun. games.
Under is 38-16 in DUKE last 54 vs. Atlantic Coast.
Under is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings.
GATEC are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Duke.

Matt’s Free Pick: Duke– While the Blue Devils were less than impressive in their season low win over the Cavs, Tech’s inconsistency is too much to gamble on versus a Duke squad that is capable of delivering a knockout punch as early as in the first half. Back the Devils.
