Kentucky took a tough loss to Alabama Tuesday 68-66, as a second half rally wasn’t enough.

Heading into halftime, the Wildcats were down 37-30 but couldn’t overcome the deficit. The Crimson Tide had lost their last five games against the storied Kentucky, and improved their record to 3-7 against ranked teams. Alabama surprised from long distance, hitting seven of its 14 3-point attempts, led by Charvez Davis who had three. Jones paced the offense for Kentucky with 17 points and nine rebounds. He seemed a bit jittery, committing four turnovers. Lamb added 16 points, while Knight added 14 and Miller 12. The Wildcats only nailed half of their 14 free throws in the second half, a costly mistake.

Kentucky has played impressively thus far, with all their losses being narrow escapes with the exception of UConn 84-67. The scoring is consistent with 79.2 ppg (22nd) and rebounding at 40.4 per game (18th). They do have trouble moving the ball, and have managed only 13.6 assists (139th) and have slipped from the field, hitting only .460 (79th) of their field goals. Terrence Jones forms a strong attack with Brandon Knight; Jones has 18.5 ppg with 9.4 rebounds, and Knight has 17.3 ppg with 3.8 assists.

Meanwhile, South Carolina grabbed an overtime win against Arkansas last time out, 81-74. The Gamecocks are tough at home this year, going 9-1 at Colonial Life Arena. Sam Muldrow stepped up in overtime, scoring five of his 20 points to lead the victory. On fire as of late, he also hit a late 3-pointer in the win at Florida on Saturday, and added eight rebounds and six blocks in the game on Wednesday. Ramon Galloway had 21 points to lead the Gamecocks scoring attack.

South Carolina has surprised the SEC this season, going 12-5 and sit in fist in the SEC East. The team has relied on defense over offense, scoring 72.4 ppg (109th) and managing 40.2 rebounds (20th). There’s no real proven scorer, and they rank low in assists with 12.3 a game (240th). Ellington is the main threat on attack with 14.9 ppg and 3.6 assists. His scoring mate is Galloway with 10.3 ppg.

South Carolina has been a surprise, and play well at home, but they lack the scorer necessary to beat premier teams like Kentucky. Though the Wildcats have had their trouble as of late, the offense is strong enough to overcome many of their deficiencies for a win.
