It has been a season of unfulfilled promise for the USC Trojans and Washington Huskies. With the Pac-10 Tournament looming next week in Los Angeles, these two teams play a final regular season with their post-season paths pretty well determined.
The Huskies have contended for the top spot in the league standings all season long, and enter Saturday’s regular season finale knowing they’ll finish no worse than third place. When they defeated conference leading Arizona and then Arizona State in late January, Washington was perched to take over command of the Pac-10. Instead, they have posted a pedestrian 5-5 mark in the last ten contests.
Junior guard Isaiah Thomas leads the Huskies in scoring at 16.9 points per contest and also leads in assists at nearly six per contest. In the first meeting with Southern Cal way back in late December, the Huskies got secondary scoring to help post a victory. Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Terrence Ross both scored 18 points in the triumph. 
The Trojans had made a late-season push the last two weeks, winning four straight and five of their last six. But an eight-point defeat to Washington State on Thursday was a devastating blow to their chances for the big dance. With an RPI of 79, despite quality victories against Texas, Tennessee, and Arizona on their resume, the Trojans need to run the table at the Pac-10 Tournament next week in order to go to the NCAA Tournament.
The men of Troy are lead by junior forward Nikola Vucevic. He’s averaging a double-double with 17.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. He scored 28 points in the previous meeting. The Trojans need to improve in rebounding, especially on the defensive end where they allowed the Huskies 12 offensive boards.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Washington – Thursday’s defeat at Washington State sealed the Trojans fate: win the Pac-10 Tournament or hope for an NIT bid. Knowing that, the Huskies would like to finish strong in advance of next week’s conference tournament.
Without a quality non-conference win, Washington will be one of the lowest seeded teams from a BCS Conference in the NCAA Tournament.
