Oklahoma Sooners vs. Baylor Bears Preview

This first round Big 12 conference game is very important to the Baylor Bears (18-12) facing the Oklahoma Sooners (13-17), as they are on the bubble and if they lose it will really hurt their chances to make it into the NCAA Tournament. NCAAB lines have Baylor as 7.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 129.5.

In their last games of the season Baylor lost to Texas 60-54 and Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State 64-61, which snapped their 8 game losing streak. Baylor looked like a lock to make the Big Dance a few weeks back, but they played themselves onto the bubble losing 5 of their last 7 games.

This season Oklahoma was not a good betting team going 11-13 ATS while people betting on Baylor are not happy in the slightest since they went 7-15 ATS.

These 2 teams split the season series with each team winning on their home court.

This game is not a good match up for the Sooners, as they only rank 260th in the nation in scoring while Baylor has a good defense ranking 56th in the nation in opponents’ points per game. On top of that Oklahoma ranks 324th out of 345 D1 teams in rebounds per game. Sooners’ 2nd leading scorer and leading rebounder F Andrew Fitzgerald (12.9 ppg 5.2 rpg) has to provide some offense, but he has to be THE man on the boards in this game.

Oklahoma has struggled on defense lately giving up 7 more points per game than their season average.

Baylor is led by G LaceDarius Dunn (19.8 ppg) and he is joined by F/C Perry Jones (13.9 ppg 7.2 rpg). Jones is 6’11” while the Sooners do not have much size and OU will have to pack the lane in order to keep Jones from dominating in the paint.

Much of Oklahoma’s scoring comes from the backcourt of Cade Davis (13.8 ppg) and Steven Pledger (11 ppg) and each of these guys is shooting around 35% from beyond the 3-pt arc and these guys will need to shoot the rock well from deep in order to pull off the upset in this game.

Baylor is in desperation mode needing a win while there is not much pressure on Oklahoma. However, Dunn is a star and he will come up big in this game, as the Bears will win this game and cover the 7.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Oklahoma is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games and Baylor is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite of 7.0-12.5.

Pick: Baylor -7.5
