Texas Tech vs. Missouri Tigers Preview

In a first round match up in the Big 12 conference tournament the Missouri Tigers (22-9) host the Texas Tech Red Raiders (13-18). NCAAB lines have Missouri as 10-point favorites in this game with a total of 154.5.

In their last games of the season Missouri lost to Kansas 70-66 and Texas Tech lost to Texas A&M 66-54. The Tigers are likely in the Big Dance regardless of the outcome of this game and even though they may have a slight home court advantage tonight with the game being held in Kansas City they are not a hot team losing their last 3 games. Tech just wishes they were on the bubble and they will have to win this tournament to make the NCAA tournament. The Red Raiders lost 3 of their last 4 games of the season.

These teams were not good bets on the season with Texas Tech at 11-15 and Missouri at 12-13. In the last 11 games between these 2 teams the favorite has covered the spread 9 times.

This is not a good match for the Red Raiders, as they only rank 305th in the nation in opponents’ points per game and Mizzou has a high scoring team ranking 9th in the nation in scoring. However, Tech does have a couple of things going for them. First, in their last 3 games their D has actually been pretty good giving up 10 fewer ppg than their season average and they only lost to Mizzou by 8 points in an away game a few weeks back.

While Mizzou has lost their last 3 games leading scorer Marcus Denmon (16.8 ppg) has played well averaging 20 ppg in that span. He scored 20 points in the game against Tech earlier this season at home.  Laurence Bowers (11.8 ppg) has also been playing well, but the reason the Tigers have been losing is their defense is not playing well and Denmon and Bowers are not getting much help on offense.

Tech is led by G John Roberson (13.6 ppg) and F Mike Singletary (12.7 ppg). Reberson has to get back on track in this game, as in his last 2 games he has combined for 14 points on a combined 5/21 shooting.

Tech has been playing good D lately and they must do that tonight. In the loss to the Tigers on February 15th The Red Raiders allowed Mizzou to shoot 58.1% from the field, 47.1% from beyond the 3-pt arc, and they committed 17 turnovers. If the Tigers can repeat those types of numbers they should have no problem winning this game.

The Tigers are bound for the NCAA tourney and a better team than the Red Raiders and while I think they will win Tech will not get blown out and they will cover the 10-point spread.

Betting Trends

Texas Tech is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning percentage above 60% and Mizzou is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite.

In the last 5 games between these 2 teams the total has gone Over 4 times.

Pick: Texas Tech +10
