The defending national champion Blue Devils have skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot in the NCAAA, and will now try to avoid becoming the third team in as many weeks to be knocked from their throne as they host a red-hot Temple team that is riding an eight-game winning streak coming into Wednesday’s contest at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The twenty-fourth-ranked Owls are 0-7 in Durham since winning its first visit in 1949 and has dropped the last eight meetings overall. But that won’t stop deter Temple even though have a huge advantage playing at home. Besides having won 34 in a row at Cameron overall, the Blue Devils have won 85 straight there against non-conference foes since 2000.

Nevertheless, the Owls have been tough against non-conference beating Georgetown and losing to Texas A&M and Villanova by a combined seven points.

The Owls have been on fire as of late, winning their last five by double digits. Ramone Moore has led them in scoring in four straight, averaging 22.3 points, including 17 points in 38 minutes shooting 42 percent in the team’s 66-52 win over St. Joseph on Saturday.

Senior forward Lavoy Allen added 12 big rebounds on his way to becoming Temple’s all-time leading rebounder in the win of St. Joe’s. Allen has 1,045 rebounds after posting his fourth double double in seven games with 12 boards and 14 points.

The Owls lead the Atlantic 10 in points allowed at 61.0 per game, but they must now face a Duke team leading the ACC in scoring at 83.0 ppg.

Duke star guard Nolan Smith earned a second consecutive ACC player of the week honor after scoring 20 of his 28 points in the second half in the team’s 79-57 win over Georgia Tech on Sunday.

Smith is averaging 25.4 points in his last eight games and is 13 of 24 from 3-point range over the past five. He is one of three players in the country averaging more than 20.0 points and 5.0 assists and leads the ACC in both categories.

CBB Betting Trends:

TEMP are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Over is 13-6 in TEMP last 19 vs. Atlantic Coast.
DUKE are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Wed. games.

Matt’s Free Pick:  Temple and the points- Although it’s hard to beat against the Blue Devils at home, one has to take into consideration the matchup between Duke forward Kyle Singler and 6-foot-9, 225-pound Allen who holds a slight edge in rebounding.

With that in mind, the serious gambler may be convinced to take Temple, as the Owls hang close in this battle of the boards.
