Wisconsin can get past dropping one in conference to Purdue, if they can get past Penn State on Sunday night at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers fell to 19-6, but remain in 3rd place in the Big Ten with a 9-4 conference record after suffering a 70-62 defeat, at the Purdue Boilermakers on Wednesday.

Purdue beat back the Badgers with possession management and three-point shooting, avoiding the sweep after losing to Wisconsin 66-59 earlier this season. Wisconsin managed only 15 percent shooting from downtown to Purdue’s 31.

Leading scorer Jon Leuer, who paces the team with nearly 20 points per game, put his best effort out there for the Badgers with 23 points, shooting 55 percent from the floor. It was Leuer’s 25th straight double-digit point game as he has now led the team in scoring in 17 out of 25 games this season. But it wasn’t enough as the Badgers set season lows for three point percentage, three pointers, and steals.

As for the Nittany Lions,  they have strung together two successive wins after a three-game losing streak, improving their Big Ten record to 7-7, while hanging onto fifth place with a 66-63 win over the Golden Gophers at University Park on Thursday. A big improvement for the Lions who were 0-3 against Minnesota last season.

Talor Battle, who leads the team in scoring, put up the most points for the Nittany Lions with 28 points in 40 minutes on the floor, shooting a whopping 53 percent, including 21 points coming from long range. Battle has 21 straight double-digit point games.

Penn State sealed the victory with 36 points from three-point range and did a good job hanging onto the rock with just five turnovers to 13 by the Golden Gophers.

Wisconsin’s last loss came Jan. 29 at Penn State as Battle scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half, as the Nittany Lions crashed the boards and turned up the defense to upset the Badgers at home, 56-52.

So what’s the big key to this rematch? Emotion. Wisconsin will surely be motivated after being derailed by Purdue. Maybe a little anger will get the team fired up.

Over is 7-3 in PENST last 10 road games.
Over is 6-2 in WISC last 8 Sun. games.
PENST are 3-10 ATS in the last 13 meetings.

Matt’s Free Pick:  Wisconsin– The Badgers faltered down the stretch in the first game. Call it overconfidence. It’s not likely Wisconsin will make the same mistake twice, especially in front of the home crowd, where they are a perfect 14-0.
