Can Kemba Walker’s resurgence lift the Huskies to a win over the Cardinals in a Big East rematch of one of the junior guard’s worst performances of the season?

Walker will get another chance when No. 12 UConn visits No. 16 Louisville on Friday night at the Yum Center in the Bluegrass State.

The 6-foot-1 Walker missed a 3-pointer with time expiring as Connecticut fell to Louisville 79-78  in double-overtime at home back on Jan. 29. Walker shot seven of 23 and had 20 points and four assists in the loss. The Cardinals inside zone defense forced the Huskies to the perimeter resulting in 30 attempts from beyond the arc, eight of which found the net as UConn finished the contest shooting a pitiful 37.7 percent.

Walker struggled for a three-game stretch just after the loss, averaging 15.5 points and 29.2 percent shooting, but has since bounced back averaging 26.5 points, 8.5 assists and 6.5 boards in the last two games, finishing with 31, 10 and seven in a 78-70 home victory over No. 9 Georgetown on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Louisville is 6-0 at home in Big East play, and will be looking to bounce back from a 63-54 loss at Cincinnati on Wednesday.

The Cardinals have been less successful on defense in five games since beating UConn, allowing opponents to shoot 47.1 percent. The Bearcats finished at 44.7.

Forward Terrence Jennings was the only player to reach double figures Wednesday with 14 points, as the Cardinals finished with their lowest Big East point total. Louisville was four for 17 on 3-pointers after making 53 over its previous six games.

UConn and Louisville both have players who could prove to be deciding factors in this rematch. The Cardinals get back third-leading rebounder Gorgui Dieng who missed the first meeting, while the Huskies need  sophomore forward Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, who has averaged 24.5 in his last two games, to step up his game after scoring just  two points in 19 minutes in the first matchup.

Last year, the Huskies put up a record of 0-2 on the Cardinals, losing by an average margin of seven points. In four years, Connecticut has a record of 2-5 against Louisville as the Cardinals have won the last three meetings to even the series at five-apiece.

CBB Betting Trends:

UCONN are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 Fri. games.
Under is 8-3 in UCONN last 11 overall.
Over is 8-3 in UCONN last 11 Fri. games.
Under is 6-2 in LOUVI last 8 home games.
LOUVI are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 Fri. games.
UCONN are 1-6-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

Matt’s Free Pick: Louisville – Louisville caused a lot problems for the Huskies in the last meeting with its zone matchup, spacing the floor exceptionally well. UConn will have a lot of work to do solving the Cardinals matchup schemes while taking away their fast break and perimeter shooting. I’m just not sure they can get it done.
